Not far from Jannesland begins the High Coast (Höga Kusten), which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since the year 2000.
The High Coast is situated in Västernorrlands län on the Botnic Gulf and measures 142.500 hectares. During the Ice Times the thickness of the ice layer on the land was at some places more than 3 kilometres. As a result the earth’s crust wash pushed down, but when the ice withdrew after the last Ice Time, the land has risen 285 metres. And still the land rises 8 millimetres a year.
It will be hard to see all of the Höga Kusten in one day, but if you would combine your trip with a one-day stay in a Bed & Breakfast, it would be a perfect two-day excursion.
